Updating Firmware

Genius User Manual

Follow the instructions for your model of Genius Controller or Genius Receiver:

 

 

2023 Genius Controllers

2023 Edition Genius Controllers have 2 pieces of firmware that may need to be updated.

(A) The web interface can be used to update the higher level systems using a '.bin' file.
(B) If lower level updates are required, you can use a Micro USB cable to update the secondary micro processor (this is more rarely required)


[Web interface updates with *.bin files]

(1) Download the appropriate '*.bin' firmware file for your controller:

(2) Enter your controller's IP address in your web browser to pull up the administration interface.
(3) Click on the "Update" tab.
(4) Click on the "Choose File" button.
(5) Select the appropriate '*.bin' file from your computer.
(6) Wait from the update to complete.


[USB updates with *.uf2 files] (rarely required)

(1) Download the appropriate '*.uf2' firmware file for your controller:

(2) Enter your controller's IP address in your web browser to pull up the administration interface.
(3) Click on the "Update" tab.
(4) Connect a Micro USB cable from your Controller to your computer.
(5) Click the button to enter "USB Programming Mode"
(6) A USB mass storage device should now appear on your computer.
(7) Drag and drop the "uf2" file to this new drive. When the programming is complete, the drive will disappear.
(8) Power cycle your controller, and you are now done.

 


2023 Genius Receivers

2023 Edition Genius Receivers can have their firmware updated using a Micro USB cable.


(1) Download the appropriate '*.uf2' firmware file for your controller:

(2) Connect a Micro USB cable from your Receiver to your computer.  Verify the power LED is illuminated.
(3) Hold down both the "RESET" and 'PROG' buttons at the same time.
(4) Release only the "RESET" button, continue holding the "PROG" button for 2 seconds.
(5) Release the "PROG" button. A USB mass storage device should now appear on your computer.
(6) Drag and drop the "uf2" file to this new drive. When the programming is complete, the drive will disappear.
(7) Power cycle your receiver, remove the USB cable, and you are now done.

  


2022 Genius Controllers

2022 Edition Genius Controllers can have their firmware updated via their web interface.


(1) Download the appropriate '*.bin' firmware file for your controller:

(2) Enter your controller's IP address in your web browser to pull up the administration interface.
(3) Click on the "Update" tab.
(4) Click on the "Choose File" button.
(5) Select the '*.bin' file from your computer.
(6) Wait from the update to complete.
